A baby Shower for Laura

Today is a special day. We are celebrating life!  welcoming Laura’s (blogs in Craftstorming and head boss of Titchy threads patterns) baby girl and showing you some presents that bloggers around the world made for her.  Everything started when Annika (who blogs in Naeh-connection), sparked the idea and,  with the help of Maartje (who blogs in Huisjeboompjeboefjes) organised this lovely event.

Hoy es un día especial, Celebramos la vida! y damos la bienvenida a la bebé de Laura (ella tiene un blog que se llama  Craftstorming y diseña patrones en Titchy threads patterns). Annika (autora del blog Naeh-connection) tuvo la grandiosa idea y  Maartje (autora del blog Huisjeboompjeboefjes) fue de super gran ayuda para organizar este “cyber baby shower” for Laura.

I definitely think my love for arts and crafts is inspired from my mom’s work. Not only she is a gifted artist (painter) but also an excellent knitter. I remember when a new baby was born in my family, she always knitted something for the new baby, usually jumpers, pants/dresses and booties. All of this in bright colors and coordinated. Perhaps this lovely memory makes me think that new baby is equal to “I need to knit something”.

Definitivamente creo que mi amor por arte y manualidades proviene del trabajo de mi mamá. Ella no solamente es una gran artista (es pintora) sino que teje bellezas  a dos agujas. Recuerdo cuando un nuevo bebé nacía en la familia, ella siempre tejía algo, usualmente sacos, pantalones, vestidos y patines. Todo lo anterior en colores fuertes y piezas que podían intercambiarse. Esta es quizá la razón por la cual el nacimiento de un bebé significa para mi tejer algo para ese bebé

That is why, following my mom’s tradition, I decided to make a blanket. This one is made in crochet, featuring lovely chevrons. I used the direction of this tutorial, but adapting the gauge and type of yarn. I used 100% cotton Aran weight and crochet hook number 5.

Es por esto, que, siguiendo la tradición de mi mamá, decidí tejer una cobija para la bebé de Laura. La hice en crochet. Usé las instrucciones de este tutorial, pero lo adapté de acuerdo al material que quería usar. Use 100% cotton Aran y aguja numero 5.

Although we are in summer (apparently temperatures are going to raise) and here (contrary to what happens in Colombia) babies are not overload with blankets, I think a blanket is a nice baby gift. This one in particular is made in cotton, that means is breathable and not too warm, besides it can be wash in the washer machine plus is a nice size to carry around in the pram or maybe if Laura wants to lay her baby on the floor for tummy time. Laura: I’m totally sure you are going to get a nice use to it and I really hope you like it!

Aunque en Inglaterra supuesta mente estamos en verano y aquí (contrario a lo que pasa en Colombia) a los bebés nos se les ponen muchas cobijas y/o abrigos, creo que una cobija es un regalo bonito. Esta específicamente esta hecha en algodón, lo que quiere decir que no es muy caliente y que ademas puede ser lavada en la lavadora. También la hice en un tamaño manejable para usarla en el coche.
